“Heritage of the Cowboys” will be a special set of programs to be incorporated into the annual Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering, which highlights music and poetry of the cowboys. Andy Hedges, a recognized authority on cowboy music and poetry, will present the first program on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 7 p.m. at the Encampment School. His presentation will include cowboy songs and the stories behind them, along with both traditional and modern cowboy poetry. Two activities will take place on July 18, 2026 beginning at 10 a.m. at Grand View Park. “Coffee with the Cowboys” will be a sharing of cowboy stories by local men and women who make their living in the saddle on some of the Encampment area ranches. The other will be a program specifically geared toward youth to show them how they can write and perform song verses or poetry. A special night show at 7 on Saturday, July 18 features Dave Stamey, Andy Hedges and Terry Nash. There is a ticket charge for the Saturday night show. All other performances are free.
